Free Range Chickens

Today I let my chickens out to run freely in the garden.  They loved it.  I tried to put them on my swing but they jumped off.  They liked sitting on the bird table though.  Cassie was really funny and kept trying to get her nose through the fence to see them.  Lucy my cat came for a look too.

Still no eggs though!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nest Box

Hello everyone,
Today I helped Grandad add the nest boxes on to the side of the hen house.  Hopefully soon they will start laying some eggs.  I can't wait.
Tonight Mum cooked too much Spaghetti for tea so I gave them the leftovers.  They were so funny and going mad, thinking they had found lots of worms.  They loved it.
I have had them 11 days now and they are really tame and let me pick them up all the time.
I will let you know when they lay their first egg.

Day 2 - Friday 27th August 2010

This morning I woke up and I couldn't wait to see them.
I opened their door to let them into the run.  They came straight out.
The pellet feeder had got damp in the night so Mum had to take that out and clean it.  I put some pellets in a dish and tucked into their breakfast.  They must have been really hungry.

Day 1 - 26th August 2010

Today we went to collect the chickens.  The lady took me into the field and I could choose which ones to get.  Unfortunately Mum let the first chicken go again as she was scared of it!!! ha ha
I chose 2 Light Sussex Hens and I called these Fluffy and Snowball.  I also chose 2 Speckled Hens and I called these Ruby and Scarlett.  They were quite hard to catch but Grandad caught both the Speckled Hens and helped catch the 2 Light Sussex Hens.
We put them in boxes and the lady put tape over the top to make sure they didn't get out on the way home.
On the way to the car they kept talking to us.
When we got home we put them in the chicken run and took lots of pictures of them.  They went straight into their nice warm house.  They all huddled up in the corner together and looked really sweet.
We left them alone for a while to settle in.
